President Gül, on the second day of his visit, attended the ground breaking ceremony for Abdullah Gül University named after him.
During his address to the invitees at the ceremony, the President, offering his thanks to the politicians who have named the university after him and to his fellow citizens, noted that education is the most important field to invest in, informing his audience that Turkey allocates the biggest part of its budget to education today.
UNIVERSITIES IN KAYSERI
President Gül, referring to the four universities in the city of Kayseri, praised Erciyes University in particular for its successes and spoke highly of the other two universities, Nuh Naci Yazgan University and Melikşah University.
The President, evincing his hope that Abdullah Gül University, which is expected to offer mostly technological and science courses and whose medium of education will be English, will add to the province of Kayseri and Turkey as well, extended his thanks to those who lend their support for the foundation to establish Abdullah Gül University.
President Gül further underscored that as the number of universities increases, their quality should be enhanced.
MUSEUM OF PRESIDENCY AND LIBRARY ON CAMPUS
The President further shared his wish that the Museum of the Presidency and a library be established on the campus of the university and urged the administration of the university to make efforts to graduate the future scientists and intellectuals who will add value to both the country and the world.
GREAT INTEREST IN THE GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY
President Gül later pushed a button to lay the foundation of the building of the Foreign Languages Department along with State Minister Mehmet Aydın, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yıldız, Labor and Social Security Minister Ömer Dinçer, Environment and Forest Minister Veysel Eroğlu, Mayor of Kayseri, Mehmet Özhaseki, and the businessmen subsidizing the university.
The President afterwards planted a pine sapling in the garden of the university.
